Sewing A Stylish Season Of Simplicity Sewing Patterns

I love fall, everything pumpkin flavored and decorated in rich, saturated colors. Checking out Simplicity Patterns fall collection is like looking through the old Sears catalog for a fall school wardrobe. There were always so many cute things. Let’s see what trendy and functional outfits we will be sewing this fall!

Below are my thoughts about these Simplicity brand patterns along with a few upcoming sew alongs where you can learn step-by-step how to construct these garments.

1. Simplicity 3000 Princess Seam Dress

Simplicity 3000

Unusual for the Simplicity Brand, this pattern offers various cup sizes. Front princess seams give way to flared sleeves and a loose fitting, cape-effect back. The model is shown wearing a self fabric belt, so I’m wondering if the ‘cape-effect’ is an additional piece added to the back. Might be an interesting style if you don’t like your back rolls!

2. Simplicity 3001 Boho Style Dress

I’m not completely sold on this dress. Sewing patterns that are sold as bags with a belt aren’t very flattering for most of us. There is a tremendous amount of ease in the bust. A size 14 body bust measurement is 36 inches and the finished garment bust measurement is 51.5 inches — that is a whopping 15.5 inches in ease!

Sizes: 8-16 and 18-26

3. Simplicity 3002 Classic Princess Seam Blouse

This has a great size range making it accessible for lots of different body types. Every sewist should have a tried and true blouse pattern, and this is a great option. I like the two different cuffs, rounded hem, and princess seams. It does have puffy sleeve caps, so keep that in mind, you will want a drapier fabric.

Sizes: 10-18, 20W-28W and 30W-38W

4. Simplicity 3003 Knit Top

I like this classic T-shirt style knit top. It offers enough variations to make the sewing pattern reusable. You can make the top long or short and it has two different necklines. There are three different sleeve finishes. There is a back zipper which you might not need for the crew neck, but will most likely be necessary for the mock turtleneck.

Fabric Type: Knit

Skill Level: Easy

Sizes: 6-14 and 16-24

5. Simplicity 3004 Wrap Front Blouse

I really like this blouse. It is easy for advanced beginners who want to venture into button holes since it confines them to the cuffs. You will find my sew along below. I cover the step-by-step construction including cuffs, surplice neckline, elastic casing, and the peplum. The top comes in long sleeve, flutter sleeve, and sleeveless making it a pattern that can transcend seasons.

6. Simplicity 3005 Skirt

I love how there is a wide size range for this skirt pattern. The fitted top portion and waistband gives way to front and back pleats. The pattern comes with a self-belt, has belt loops, and optional front pocket. There are two skirt lengths and an invisible side seam zipper.

7. Simplicity 3006 Front Wrap Pants

I have mixed feelings about these pants. I like the front wrap — the waist and hips are extra wide then wrap around to the front. It’s an interesting style detail. The fly front zipper make these pants a little more challenging — it shouldn’t be your first zipper insertion.

The styling with the length just doesn’t cut it for me. I know that is the look, but you really need to be tall to carry all that extra fabric.

Sizes: 8-16 and 18-26

8. Simplicity 3007 Puffer Style Coat

Super cute relaxed fit puffer style coat is right on trend. Sewing this pattern will require some stitching skills as you need to quilt the fashion fabric, fleece, and lining to create the puffer look. It’s not difficult, you just need to be able to sew perfectly straight lines.

There are button loops and a snap option, so you can avoid sewing button holes, that is a plus.

Sizes: Xsm, Sm, Med, Lrg, Xlg, XXL

9. Simplicity 3008 Winter Coat

Gorgeous faux fur coat sewing pattern. The full length faux fur look with the shawl collar and open front is stunning. It would look equally as nice in beautiful wool. Since there are very little fitting details, it would be a good beginner sewing pattern. Learning how to line a coat is the first step in sewing beautiful outerwear. The trickiest part of this coat is the back vent.

10. Simplicity 3009 Cropped Jacket And Bag

I’m sold — this is so cute! I purchased this pattern and have some Minky faux fur planned for an early fall make. If you are looking to follow a sew along for faux fur or constructing a fully lined coat, subscribe to my sewing Youtube Channel – Sewing with Sandi.

The cropped style is great for a short frame, the back cape detail and lateral pockets give the coat a trendy update.

I haven’t made a bag before. I might have to give this one a try.

11. Simplicity Mimi G 3010 Three Piece Outfit

The beginner friendly knit skirt and tank are great sewing patterns to expand your knowledge of sewing with knits. The slouchy fit cardigan with wide sleeves and button front make this sewing pattern a little more challenging.

This is a great pattern for teens learning to sew, Mimi G’s patterns are on the cutting edge and reflect trendy streetwear.

12. Simplicity Mimi G 3011 Jumpsuit

Simplicity Patterns fall collection
Simplicity 3011

This Mimi G pattern requires a solid knowledge of sewing skills. The front zipper, pintucks, and shaped yoke can be challenging. Getting a great fit on a jumpsuit requires making a muslin before cutting your fabric, there is no room for error in length.

Fabric Type: Knit

Skill Level: Average

Sizes: 10-18 and 20W-28W

13. Simplicity 3012 Unisex Hoodie

Simplicity 3012

I snagged this hoodie pattern. I haven’t made one before and I have been looking for a pattern that was more interesting than the classic zip up style. I’m interested in how the sleeve slit goes together. I have already cut this out of a yummy gray Ponte Roma from Mood. Subscribe to my sewing Youtube Channel – Sewing with Sandi to see the upcoming sew along.

I’m combining this pattern with McCall’s 8456 knit pants, sewing up the matching top and bottoms trend.
