Vogue Patterns recently released their new Fall 2023 Pattern Lookbook. I find scrolling through the Lookbook (link below) to be extremely helpful when choosing sewing patterns. It is important to see the dress, shirt, pants, etc. made up and fit on a person. Many times, patterns simply show an artist’s rendition of how the completed garment will look — this may or may not be accurate. Let’s take a closer look at Vogue Patterns Fall 2023.
How many will you make? I have a few in mind — I know you find that Shocking!

Vogue Patterns 9168
Love knits for dresses! Once you figure out all the tips and tricks to stitching up knits correctly, you can make stunning garments. I am not, however, a fan of the cold shoulder – it just doesn’t work for me. I think you need sculpted shoulders to pull this look off successfully.
The Pattern
I love the styling of Vogue 1968. The side sunburst pattern is super flattering. I think it would be fairly simple to raise up the left shoulder and make the neckline symmetrical. Sounds like a Sew Along to add to my future projects — I just added the pattern to my cart. Stay Tuned.
The pattern comes in two size categories 8-16 and 18-26.
The Fabric
This dress pattern suggests Cotton/Spandex, Jersey, Rayon/Spandex, and Stretch Velvet. It needs to have a 50% cross grain stretch. I also think it needs a little body, minimum ITY weight.
I chose this Minerva Core Range Panne Velvet Stretch Knit Fabric in red. Works right into the “Paint the Town Red” Fall Fashion Trends and works with these types of dressy sewing patterns.
Vogue Patterns 9169
The Pattern
Vogue 6169 is going to require solid fitting skills to pull off. The princess seam top stitching detail needs to line up perfectly through the center of the bust. Also, the under bust stitching needs to fall in the exact right place. This pattern will be difficult to fit for curvy figures or figures that are not completely symmetrical — in reality, who is? This one is a pass for me, but I’d love to see one of you stitch this dress up.
With pattern sizes 8-16 and 18-26, the designer seems to think it will work with a curvy body type. There is also an invisible side zip which is a lovely construction detail.
The Fabric
Jersey, Ponte, and Ribbed Knits with a 50% cross grain stretch will work for this cold shoulder number.
This Minerva Core Range Soft Ponte Roma Double Stretch Knit Fabric in Cornflower will impart a similar look as the dress modeled on the pattern jacket. You will look like you just stepped out of the collection.
Vogue Patterns 1973
The Pattern
I love this soft and feminine blouse with the tie front. Options for either a slim sleeve or bishop sleeve make these shirts personalizable. The hidden button placket adds a high end feature.
Pattern sizes 6-14 and 16-24 doesn’t quite hit the maximum range, but it is very close.
The Fabric
Fabric suggestions are Charmeuse, Crepe de Chine, Silk Jacquard, and Poplin (an odd option). Any soft, blouse weight fabric would look beautiful.
Something fabulous like Mood’s Italian Yellow, Green and Sky Leafy Abstract Silk Charmeuse would make a stunning Pucci-like blouse.
Vogue Patterns 1974
The Pattern
These pants are everything. They would make a huge fashion moment for a young and young at heart fashionista. They are a little too dramatic for me — and I love fashion drama — but they would be amazing on any one of my daughters. The fly front detail and super wide bell bottoms make them extra trendy pants.
The pattern sizes are 6-14 and 16-24.
The Fabric
The fabric suggestions for these fabulous pants are Tencel Twill, Stretch Wovens, and Wool Suiting. Interestingly they are shown in leather (or faux leather) but not mentioned in the suggested fabrics.
I like the leather option and a super soft faux leather like this Vanessa Wine Cloud Textured All Over Faux Leather Foil Stretch Polyester Knit. I haven’t used this particular leather, I did order a swatch from the stock at Mood, it’s lovely. Although, it isn’t too pricey at under $20/yard.
Vogue Patterns 1970
The Pattern
Big and boxy, I don’t see anything new in this Marcy Tilton Jacket. Looks like a rerun of a previous pattern. There are princess seams which will give it some shape, but it is pretty square. Her other patterned tops and skirts offer similar style.
It comes in a wide range of sizes: 8-16 and 18-26.
The Fabric
Suggested fabrics include Denim, Jacquard, Linen, Mid-weight Silks, Quilting Cotton, Stable Knits, and Wool Suiting. So pretty much everything goes.
I like this Embroidered Cotton Denim Fabric from Minerva. It adds some interesting detail instead of being a plain denim, unconstructed jacket.
Vogue Patterns 1971
The Pattern
Vogue 1971 is a stunning classic coat with five length options. The double breasted coat with princess seams and a fit and flare cut will be your new go to winter coat. Sewing a winter coat takes time and precise sewing, but well worth the effort.
This pattern comes in sizes 6-14 and 14-22.
The Fabric
Fabric suggestions for Vogue 1971 include Flannel, Gabardine, Tweed, and Faux Fur for the collar. I expect wool coating would also be a great choice.
Mood has a wide selection of Tweed, any of which would make a stunning winter coat.
Vogue Patterns 1972
The Pattern
The fitted jacket is a leading trend this fall and Vogue 1972 is an updated classic. Princess seams are a fitting dream, and the shawl collar is a nice feminine touch. The two piece sleeves are a lovely designer touch.
Sizes included are 6-14 and 16-24.
The jacket is paired with a classic trouser, Vogue 1830.
The Fabric
Fabrics include Brocade, Tweed, Wool Crepe, Linen, and Wool Suiting. I love the Chanel inspired wool look. This Lady McElroy Tweed Coating Fabric Black & Grey is stylish and neutral. If you are going to put the time and effort into making this jacket, using a classic fabric will give it longevity.
Vogue Patterns 1976
The Pattern
A classic men’s staple with modern extended shoulders and double breasted detail are the highlights of Vogue 1976.
Sizes available are 34-42 and 44-52.
The Fabric
Fabric options are Flannel, Gabardine, Medium Weight Wools, and Tweed — all classic men’s coating options.
Every stylish guy needs a cashmere coat. Mood has a beautiful coating and this Alberini Italian Camel Wool and Cashmere Coating comes in ten dark and serious colors.
Timeless Vintage Vogue Patterns
Two Vintage Vogue Pattern dresses round out the collection.
