Brampton Shorts

The Bramton Shorts from Itch to Stitch are a beginner level pull on short with a high waisted paperbag waist. They have side seam pockets — a must — and a sash and belt loops. The first pair I made from a cute viscose challis from Minerva – you can see the review below.

Simplicity 9189

During the winter, especially this year with the heating costs, I like to keep the house cooler and wear more layers. Making a sleeveless version of this wrap with leftover fabric hits all the right notes. It’s simple, it’s economical, and it’s ecological.

You can find Simplicity 9189 at Minerva or at Joann’s. The Pink wool fabric was from Mood, however it was purchased over five years ago.

Sewing With Silk – Tips And Tricks

Silk is beautiful, but it can be a bit of a challenge to put in your machine. It’s slippery and temperamental. It doesn’t like your iron and hates the dryer. However, when sewn beuitfully, it feels like you are wearing secret pajamas.

I have a vintage pattern I found in my enormous pattern stash — you can view hundreds of current, out of print, and vintage patterns in my Sewing With Sandi Etsy Shop. The fabric is a silk I had in my stash from B&J Fabrics.

Everyone loves to wear T-shirts, but frankly, the store-bought ones don’t always look quite right. With the versatile Concord T-Shirt pattern from Cashmerette, you can make your T-Shirt perfect for your own shape and style.

Unboxing My New Bernette

I just received a new Bernette 38 from my family as a gift — I did pick it out. I love it. It is easy enough for beginner sewists, but also has advanced features for the more seasoned sewist.

My Winter Sewing Project Makes

Simplicity 8377

I wear this sweater all-the-time! It is my go to whenever I am out and about.

I love Simplicity 8377, it offers lots of great cardigan options. The pattern pieces offer interchangeable lengths, sleeve options, and hem details. Once you fit this easy-to-wear sweater, you can make it up in a flash – over and over again.

Ponte Roma Double Stretch Knit Fabric I ordered the winter white (cream) from Minerva. Simplicity 8377 Pattern is available on Minerva.

Silhouette 3414

I have made these woven yoga pants from Silhouette Patterns over a dozen times. I actually teach an in-person class with this pattern and my online Perfect Pajama Pants class — it is fabulous. You can make these out of everything from flannel for pjs to rayon for something dressy.

This pair I crafted out of the Minerva Exclusive Celestial Motion Viscose Challis and widen the leg for a more floaty look. You can find the pattern, Silhouette 3414 in my Etsy Shop. It’s one of my favorites.

McCall’s 8022

I live in tunics and leggings in the winter and this sweatshirt tunic is perfect for my personal style. The pattern is easy to construct with a few simple tips and tricks — the pocket can be confusing if you have never sewn a pouch pocket before. But I take it step by step in my video — see below.

You can find McCalls 8022 at Minerva. Minerva Exclusive Animal Song Sweater Knit Stretch is a charming knit that holds it shape well.

Vogue 9253 Renamed Vogue 1735

This pattern, Vogue 9253, was everywhere about five years ago. I bought the pattern then, but haven’t sewn it up yet. After a little research I found Vogue reissued the pattern under Vogue 1735. Why do they do that?

I edited the plunging V neckline and added an invisible zipper, the finished dress is gorgeous.

The pattern, Vogue 9253 is out-of-stock everywhere, However, you can find the renamed version — Vogue 1735 on Minerva. The skirt fabric is from Mood (I’ve had it in my stash for a few years). The bodice fabric I won on EBT’s weekly instagram #fabriclove giveaway. Simplicity 9140

Perfect for transitioning from winter to spring — or part of your fall wardrobe, Simplicity 9140 has a modern, trendy look. It’s casual enough for running errands, but can be dressed up for a dinner date. I love the look of the faux pickups on the side — super cute.

Simplicity 9140 is popping up everywhere — it is a great option for spring. The fabric for this make has been in my stash for a while.

Brampton Shorts

I made these during the winter when there was snow on the ground. I refused to go outside in shorts and sandals, so I took the photographs in my studio. To add some whimsy, I worked a little Canva magic — so with a little creativity — I’m flying in my new cheetah shorts!
