16 Sewing Pattern Trends and Must Sew Designs For Fall
Vogue Patterns Fall Collection 2024 is an eclectic mix of elegant gowns, military inspired details, and figure flattering styles. From form fitted dresses to floaty caftans, there are styles for every sewist.
Most of the patterns are rated average or advanced due to the elevated detail we expect from traditional Vogue patterns. With some guidance and careful sewing, even beginner sewers can sew these patterns successfully. The fall 2024 pattern designers take sewists on a journey to stretch their sewing skills and we will take on the challenge.

1. Vogue 2043 Gathered Front Dress
The Pattern: Vogue 2043
This close fitting, unlined dress has a classic princess cut with a twist. The asymmetrical front drape adds softness to the design. The bias cut skirt drapes beautifully, just make sure you hang the dress for several days before hemming. The bias cut may grow making the hem uneven. There are elbow darts in the fitted sleeve option, which is a nice high-end detail.
Fabric Type: Drapey Fabrics – knit and woven
Skill Level: Average
Sizes: 6-14, 16-24
2. Vogue 2044 Tie Front Dress
The Pattern: Vogue 2044
Climbing on the tie-front fashion trend bandwagon, this princess seam fit and flare is an updated classic. The lined dress has a back zip, making the ties stationary so you can get a pretty bow and stitch it in place. The elbow dart and side seam pockets are nice details. I love that there are cup size options.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
3. Vogue 2045 Fitted Sheath Dress
The Pattern: Vogue 2045
A military inspired style, the sheath dress has fisheye and neckline darts along with a two piece sleeve giving it a sculptured fit. The front flap detail probably won’t be desirable for anyone who doesn’t want attention drawn to that part of their body. The two shoulder/sleeve options are nice. The epaulettes and pointeThe d collar give the dress its military feel.
Fabric Type: Woven

Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
4. Vogue 2046 Fit And Flare Dress With Fringe
The Pattern: Vogue 2046
A little retro fashion for the fall season, this fit and flare dress has an interesting fringe edging. Princess seams and a yoke detail along with the gored skirts give this dress its throwback look. The two sleeve and hemline options give the garment seasonal wearability.
Fabric Type: Woven

Sizes: 4-12, 14-22
5. Vogue 2047 Evening Dress by Badgley Mischka
The Pattern: Vogue 2047
If you are looking for a celebrity style stunner, this Badgley Mischka strapless number might be the one for you. The elegant bow detail adds style, while the built in foundation adds structure. You will need some sewing chops to make your way through this advanced pattern.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
6. Vogue 2048 Special Occasion Dress With Bows
The Pattern: Vogue 2048
Wow! Vogue Patterns 2048 is a borderline fantasy princess gown. If you have a haute couture event, this one would work, but my guess is you won’t be wearing it more than once.
The deep v neck and fitted bodice attached to a full skirt has a separate under petticoat. The gigantic overlay bows make a fashion statement that won’t soon be forgotten.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 6-14, 16-24
7. Vogue 2049 Knit Bodysuit
The Pattern: Vogue 2049
The asymmetrical neckline on this knit bodysuit is perfect for your fall 2024 wardrobe. It offers interesting lines on a practical piece. The dramatic gathered drape on version A might be a one-off, but the basic pattern offers lots of interesting hacking options.
Fabric Type: Knit

Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
8. Vogue 2050 Wrap Front Skirt
The Pattern: Vogue 2050
This Vogue Patterns trench inspired midi is a statement piece. The double button closure and asymmetric hemlines add interest in an otherwise utilitarian piece of clothing. Interesting and unique skirt patterns are hard to come by, this one is super cute.

Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
9. Vogue 2051 Barrel Leg Pants
Sew Along – coming soon.
The Pattern: Vogue 2051
I love this jean pattern. I already have it on my cutting table ready to go. Barrel leg pants are taking over skinny jeans this season. I’m curious to see how they look on a not-fit-model body type — stay tuned for the sew along. This style might be way out of my comfort zone!
Fabric Type: Woven

Sizes: 6-14, 16-24
10. Vogue 2052 Jacket by Julio Cesar NYC
The Pattern: Vogue 2052
This is kind of a simple jacket for a designer pattern. I’m not sure why it is listed for advanced skills. It is loose fitting with dropped shoulders, that should be fairly easy. The only things on the jacket that might be challenging are the notched collar and welt pockets. Both techniques require some precision, and you could easily leave the welt pockets off the jacket if they were too challenging for your skill set.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
11. Vogue 2053 Double Breasted Jacket
Sew Along — coming soon.
The Pattern: Vogue 2053
I like to add new jackets to my wardrobe each season, and this cropped cutie is my pick for fall 2024. The fully lined, double-breasted cut with the retro style shoulder pads give a modern, updated feel. The two piece sleeves and jacket vent are excellent fit details you expect from Vogue patterns.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Average
Sizes: 4-12, 14-22
12. Vogue 2054 Cape
The Pattern: Vogue 2054
Everyone needs a cape in their outerwear wardrobe. This one has some interesting military details like a pointed collar and epaulettes. It looks lovely made out of wool, and I think it would be stunning in a beige raincoat fabric — an updated trench coat moment.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Average
Sizes: XS-XXL
13. Vogue 2055 Trench Coat
Sew Along coming this spring.
The Pattern: Vogue 2055
I have wanted to make a trench coat for a while. This pattern offers lots of style details to make it interesting and look expensive. The long draped panel is an intriguing twist to this classic design. There are lots of fitting details on this project, a full practice garment will be needed before cutting into the fashion fabric.
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
14. Vogue 2056 Skirt And Jacket
The Pattern: Vogue 2056
I think this pattern looks frumpy — the long skirt and long jacket swallow up the beautiful model. The jacket has a swing style cape back and shoulder pads adding more fabric to the look. Paired with the long, tapered skirt, it appears as an inverted triangle. What were the designers thinking?
Fabric Type: Woven
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizes: 8-16, 18-26
15. Vogue 2057 Caftan
The Pattern: Vogue 2057
A beautiful drapey fabric sewn into a caftan makes you feel pretty. This one offers a loose or fitted option along with two different necklines. The grown on sleeves add to the comfy, relaxed feel. This might be the fall 2024 loungewear pattern winner.
Fabric Type: Knit or Woven
Skill Level: Average
Sizes: XS-XXL
16. Vogue 2060 Reversible Wrap Dress By Diane von Furstenberg
The Pattern: Vogue 2060
Do we need another Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress pattern? This one is reversible, but you could easily take one of the other re-released patterns and make it reversible. Additionally, I’m not a big fan of reversible clothes, you typically end up wearing them mostly one way, so just make two dresses — less bulk and more variety.
Fabric Type: Knit
Skill Level: Easy
Sizes: 8-16. 18-26
