Tank Dress and Short Wrap Jacket Sewn With Knit Fabric
McCall’s Sewing Patterns are one of the more popular pattern brands available for home sewists. McCall’s patterns have clean, simple styles that are easy for beginners to sew. No matter what your skill range, you will enjoy sewing McCall’s 6559.

The Pattern
This vintage pattern, which you may find in a few Etsy Shops and every now and then one pops up on Amazon, is a great pattern for cruise wear and summer outfits.
The dress is long — of course I shortened it to a tank top — and it is one of my favorite tank top patterns.
The jacket comes in two lengths and is perfect for a light added layer when the evening gets chilly or the sea breeze kicks in.
Both the dress and jacket are super easy to sew.
The Long Dress With Star Insert
Years ago I made this pattern for my daughter, she was going to a beach party and wanted something fun. I used a soft white knit and cut the star out from an open weave knit. It was super cute. The color blocking designs are something I haven’t considered, but I do like that you can create a pattern with fabric from your stash.
Crushed Velvet Tank And Jacket
The Sweater set is made with Minerva Exclusive Tranquil Moment Crush Velvet Stretch Knit Fabric. I used the McCall’s pattern for the tank. The coordinating jacket for the crush velvet set is Simplicity 8377. You can watch the Sew Along to construct the long version of this jacket at Sewing With Sandi.
Purple Knit Jacket And Tank
Isn’t it great when the wind cooperates and highlights the details of the pattern! The tails on the jacket drape nicely or you can tie them up.
I made this jacket to wear over a Burda Style Faux Wrap Dress — Check out my review of the dress because this is another fabulous pattern.
With plenty of fabric left over, I was able to make a pair of wide leg pants with Simplicity 9789 – A sew along is in the works.
I made a second tank top buy cutting down the dress. It’s a perfectly fitting tank for stretch knits. With the self bias binding, they work up quickly with just a yard of fabric. I think I want dozens of these in my closet.
