The Pattern

Burda Style 6496

The Burda Style 6496 is a pattern you will want to have in your pattern stash. It has the classic lines of a wrap dress with out the ties, buttons, snaps, etc. associated with wrap dresses.

When Minerva asked me to make a video for this Burda faux wrap dress pattern, I was excited to give the pattern a try. I loved it! I loved it so much I wore it to my daughter’s “Happily Ever After” party. She eloped in Telluride — another dress — Vogue 9253.

The pattern comes in a nice range of sizes EUR 34-48 and US 8-20. It would be perfect made up in rayon, crepe, lightweight linen, and any fine fabric with a soft hand. Know for their magazine patterns, Burda Style includes the seam allowances in it’s enveloped pattern pieces.

The Fabric

Peacock Nebula Viscose Challis

I loved working with the Minerva Exclusive Peacock Nebula Viscose Challis Fabric. It sews beautifully and presses easily. The drape of the viscose challis is devine. It has a rich drape that floats away from the body, perfect for every type of figure.

A few things to consider — this fabric is actually a one-way design. The directional print of the peacock feathers have a distinct top and bottom. This means you need to lay your pattern pieces out with them all facing to the top; which can gobble up fabric pretty quickly. And you certainly don’t want your feathers going in different directions.

I had 1.5 meters for the long, sleeveless dress. Since I had to shorten the length of the dress (I’m 5″2′) and I had just enough fabric. However, if you want to achieve the look on the envelope – just above the ankle, you are going to need a little more fabric.

Second Make

Tropical Tiles Linen Viscose

I loved Burda Patterns faux wrap dress so much, I am making a second one out Minerva Exclusive Tropical Tiles Linen Viscose Blend Fabric. I am going to make this one long and sleeveless also. I don’t plan to change anything but the fabric. I wear a lot of sleeveless garments, they work all year round — simply add a jacket when it gets colder.

I can’t wait to get it finished!

The Burda Patterns Sew Along Video

In the mean time, I’ve posted a little preview on YouTube.

Burda Pattern 6496 Review

There are a few things that stand out in this pattern. The vertical darts give the impression of a a long and lean waistline — one of my best friends. The pattern is made for someone very tall, I shortened the skirt eight inches. (I’m 5’2″). The pattern can be dressy or casual with the addition of accessories.
