Vogue Pattern 1312 Review

I was asked by Minerva to make a sew along for Vogue Pattern 1312. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity because I love Vogue Patterns and this Lynn Mizono designer pattern is totally my style.

The Pattern

Vogue Pattern 1312

The pattern, Vogue 1312, is a long dress – mid calf – with faux pickups. It is drafted as sleeveless or long sleeves, with a wide scoop neck. It has a side zip and an empire waistline.

I found the long dress with all the fabric at the bottom and the long sleeves were too much fabric for my frame. So I shortened the sleeves to three quarters to lighten the dress up a bit. Since I made it with linen, it is perfect for multi-seasonal wear. The bodice is fully lined — which I love — it makes for a much better finish. All my sewing friends can confirm — I am not a fan of facings.

The pattern comes in two size ranges: 8-16 and 16-24. It runs true to size, although it was very long and I had to shorten it. Because of the lower dress detail, shorten the pattern before cutting it out, if you shorten it at the hem, you will lose some of the design.

The neckline on this pattern was a little too big for me. I made a muslin on the top before cutting into my fashion fabric, and that allowed me to make the necessary fit adjustments on my muslin.

I love having a closet full of dresses, and I expect I’ll be shopping for more fabric for this one.

The Fabric

This beatiful fabric is Minerva’s Core Range Linen Look Textured Cotton in Navy. The fabric is a dream to work with – it cuts, sews, and presses beautifully. The weight is perfect for this dress.

The recommended fabrics on the pattern envelope are lightweight denim, lightweight gabardine, or lightweight linen. I think the dress would also work in a lightweight wool, however it might need to be fully lined.

Vogue patterns take sewing from a simple hobby to beautiful designer closet collection pieces.

The Sew Along

Minerva TV is still processing the sew along. I will post a link here as soon as the video is available. The written post for this dress is on Minerva, you can find it here.

Vogue Sewing Patterns

The designer quality of Vogue sewing patterns draws me in every time. More than just the same old dress styles that seem to repeat season after season, it is fun to find a new pattern that has a good reason to make it up — it’s current, fashionable, and part of their designer collection.

You will love Vogue Pattern 1312, It is one of my new goto dresses. I am looking forward to their selection of fall sewing patterns.
